The photograph shows; The White Bull Hotel, an early double-decker bus, two vintage motor bikes and a dejected looking horse- that may be shortly to become redundant!

The bus is possibly one operated by a Mr Hodson from Gregson Lane who ran a, 'Sundays only' service to Longridge in about 1919.

"This is a fine picture of the old "Club Row" ... Mr Hodson's open top bus was the first to operate from Gregson Lane, to Longridge, the service being finalised in Ribble Motors. It was quite an experience riding on top in the rain with a "gamp" and ducking under trees! At least three forms of transport are depicted... I believe that Mr Bill Marsden, one time carrier to Preston, is holding the pony. His family used to run a confectionary shop at the top of Davis Street, Longridge. Mr and Mrs Tom Yates host and hostess of the White Bull and Mr John Davis... stand out from the group, but I am not confident of the others."

Robert Marsden,

Retired Railway Clerk.
