A Ruston Steam navvy digging clay near College Wood during the construction of Alston No.1 reservoir. 


They underestimated the amount of 'muck' they needed to build the banks so they had to dig a big hole behind the reservoir to finish the banks. 
The locomotive is a motor rail made in Bedford, and it comprised of a four cylinder petrol engine.
